How to fill in a genogram template
- Write the index person's name under the double-outlined symbol, then the parents, the brothers and sisters, and the grandparents on both sides.
- Write the year of birth above each symbol on the left, and the age inside it. For anyone who has died, draw an X in the symbol and write the year of death above it on the right.
- Mark the couples: add m. and the year under each marriage line, one slash for a separation and two for a divorce.
- Add the brothers and sisters, aunts and uncles the template does not have room for, in birth order from left to right.
- Shade symbols for illnesses (left half) and alcohol or drug problems (bottom half), and draw the relationship lines from the key.
Running out of room, or crossing things out? The genogram maker lays out any family automatically, and every symbol is explained in genogram symbols and lines.
